Growing Pains (British TV Series)
''Growing Pains'' is a British television series aired by the BBC on BBC1. The show ran for two series, from 16 May 1992 to 14 July 1993, and was unrelated to the 80s American sitcom of the same name. ''Growing Pains'' is a family comedy drama about a middle-aged couple, Tom and Pat Hollingsworth, who decide to become foster parents. The show relates the consequences this decision has on their lives and the tensions it causes between them and their own three children. The TV series was a continuation of the 1989–1990 radio series by the same name, which was written by, and partly based on the real-life experiences of Steve Wetton. ''Growing Pains'' is the debut acting role of actress Lily Collins, at two years old when she appeared on the show. Nigel John Hess (born 22 July 1953) is a British composer, best known for his television, theatre and film soundtracks, including the theme tunes to ''Campion (1989 TV series), Campion'', ''Maigret (1992 TV series), Maigret'', ''Wycliffe (TV series), Wycliffe'', ''Dangerfield (TV series), Dangerfield'', ''Hetty Wainthropp Investigates'', ''Badger (TV series), Badger'' and ''Ladies in Lavender''. ''Growing Pains'' is an American television sitcom created by Neal Marlens that aired on ABC from September 24, 1985, to April 25, 1992. The show ran for seven seasons, consisting of 166 episodes. The series followed the misadventures of the Seaver family, which included psychiatrist and father Jason, journalist and mother Maggie, and their children Mike, Carol, Ben, and Chrissy. Premise The show centers on the Seaver family of Huntington, Long Island, New York. Dr. Jason Seaver (portrayed by Alan Thicke), a psychiatrist, works from home because his wife, Maggie (Joanna Kerns), has gone back to work as a reporter. Trevor Edward Peacock (19 May 1931 – 8 March 2021) was an English actor, screenwriter and songwriter. He made his name as a theatre actor, later becoming known for his Shakespearean roles. Later in his career, he became best known for playing Jim Trott in the BBC comedy series ''The Vicar of Dibley''. Raymond Michael Brooks (born 20 April 1939) is an English television and film actor. Early work Ray Brooks was born in Brighton, Sussex, and began as a television actor. He appeared in the long-running ITV soap ''Coronation Street'' in 1964 as Norman Phillips. He played Terry Mills in the series ''Taxi!'' with Sid James (1963). Elizabeth Ann Crowther (born 9 December 1954) is an English theatre actress. Her father was the actor, comedian and presenter Leslie Crowther and her mother was Jean Crowther, actress and dancer. Theatre work Beginning her stage career in 1966, Crowther debuted with London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), playing Clara, the lead role in the annual production of ''The Nutcracker''.
